Service Organization Development

Ipas, a global reproductive justice organization, sought Percolab’s expertise after being inspired by Samantha Slade’s book, “Horizontal Leadership.” The objective was to decolonize work systems and encourage shared leadership by decentralizing into a networked organization and transforming the organizational culture toward greater inclusivity and shared accountability across the more than 20 countries where the organization is active.

OUR ROLE

Encouraging cultural change through a “Horizontal Leadership” practicum and a training of trainers.

Accompanying workgroups and committees in the transition to decentralization and greater leadership sharing.

Facilitating co-creation and collective decision-making for the new networked governance model.

Supporting the leadership of offices around the world by encouraging change within their local contexts and cultures.

A radically creative process WITH FOUR phases

01 – INITIATION AND TRAINING

Online Going Horizontal Practicum with 50 participants; Training of Trainers for sustainability of the organizational working-culture transition

02 – IMPLEMENTATION AND INTEGRATION

Support for the adoption of shared leadership practices in daily operations.

03 – DECISION MAKING GUIDANCE

Facilitation of consent-based decision-making workshops for critical organizational decisions such as the new network-based governance model.

04 – ONGOING COACHING

Ongoing support throughout the cultural change process and retrospective learning.

IMPACT

The horizontal training enabled teams to shift towards shared leadership. The decision-making process provided Directors with new collective skills, supported high-stakes decision-making resulting in actionable outcomes, and advanced the new governance model through consent-based decision-making workshops based on wide consultation and co-creation.

“The Percolab practicum was a great opportunity to stop and reflect on our practices and relationships as a team. This training helped our team to transform the way we conduct our meetings and make decisions every day. Now we have the tools we need to continue improving the way we work together, so we can move toward more participatory, collaborative and productive practices.” Cecilia Espinoza

“The practicum gave specific tools and helpful practices to operationalize the principles of shared leadership in our daily work. I particularly like the concept of co-managed meetings, which has helped create space for everyone attending a meeting to raise issues or offer suggestions.” — Anand Cerillo Sharma
